What are the words that are going to be needed in your Social Media activities? Your vocabulary will speak volumes about you. Make sure that you are saying what needs to be heard!

Conversation.

Yep- that is what the core focus is in Social Media.

Ok- let’s get REAL. If Social Media marketing is about conversation, then should there not be words that fit in to what the culture of social media is all about? Should you not paint a picture with your words? Should your words not elicit feelings and emotions?

Of course they should.

Words are a marketer’s tool box. Here are 11 you need.

1) “YOU”

There is nothing more powerful to a person reading a message or conversation that has the word YOU in it, over and over. Many people have an “I” mentality, and in social media, you are not the deal. The other person or side of the conversation is.

There are 2 forms of conversation in social media::

a) “Contribution” and b) “Distribution.”

” Contribution conversations” contribute to the whole, and add value to the conversation. “Distribution conversation” distributes the message/agenda you want- and has little inclusion of someone else. Contribution words use YOU many times. Distribution words use “I” or ‘Me” many times. Use the word YOU and become a Contribution Agent in social media, not a distribution rookie.

2) “A Person’s Name”

Duh. There is nothing more beautiful to a person than their name. This is a given. I am surprised how many tweets, notes, and messages I get and also read that do not say the person’s name. Use their name at least once in every communication and message as it adds to the conversation.

And also, a person will retain almost 70% more of what a message says, if their name is within the first 3 words. Chris Brogan is a master at this. I have seen and studied him, and every time he tweets or sends a message- usually the name is the first word.

Smart. VERY smart. we all should follow that lead.

3) “Connection”

This word is an indication that you want to connect and start a relationship of some kind and create an ongoing conversation. Many folks use the phrase “get together” or “meet up” or “network.” These words are good- but CONNECT has a power within the word.

Electricity is usable when you connect to it. Same thing as a battery in a car which powers the car. And idea is only powerful when you CONNECT to it. The Power is in the Connection-when 2 things come together. It is the same in new relationships- it is all about CONNECTION.

4) “Tribes”

This is an interesting word. Seth Godin has a cool book called “Tribes.” I suggest that you read it. But as far as a word for the social media arena, it is a word that helps define that you are within the culture and understand the community aspects of what social media is about.

In tribes around the world, it is all about community and belonging to that community. It is the same in social media. Recently I described the community we are building within a project as an “empowered tribe” and some people got it- and well, others did not.

Make sure if they do not understand the concept of tribes, then you explain it.

5) “Transparent”

In social media, being REAL is critical. And part of being REAL is being open and transparent. I love it when I read statements like “full disclosure” and people are disclosing that they have an interest or are on some board of a company they are talking about. THAT is so rocking hot. It shows that they are being transparent and nothing to hide and telling the truth.

And that is what social media is about in many respects- TRUTH about you- and what you are and do. THAT is transparency. Use that word when talking about the truth. Just being “transparent” – that says a lot in one word about you.

6) “Strategy”

Social media without a strategy for it, is like building a house without a blueprint. You need to develop, plan, start, and execute a strategy for your social media success. We call it a “Social Media Path.” What PATH do you plan on developing for your business, and how will that fit into your current model of business? What will be your Primary social media Platform, and what will be your secondary platforms?

PATH stands for “Purpose- Actions-Tracking-How.” What is your PURPOSE for integrating social media into your business? Marketing? Prospecting? Client communication? Customer service? What ACTIONS will it take? Videos? Blogs? Podcasts? Social Networking? What TRACKING system will you use to keep the platforms at maximum pace? And HOW are you going to Execute the Actions? Through employees? Through outsourcing? Through a combination?

Strategy is a word that you just talk about. You need one. And so do others that you know as well.

7) “Branding”

This word has been around for a while. But you still need it in your focus and communication. Branding is a word that you need to utilize not only in your messages, but your focus as well.

YOU are the Brand is a popular way to discuss social media marketplace image making. But that is not totally true. The PERCEPTION of you is the brand you are building- good or not so good. So make sure that if you use this word in social media this year, you realize that PERCEPTION rules in Branding.

Brand yourself in the marketplace. But make sure that you focus on the VIEW and FEELINGS people have of you and experience when they think of you and what you do- and not just some catchy slogan or icon.

8 “Trust”

You need to be an Agent of Trust. Chris Brogan has a book coming out called “Trust Agents.” Should be a rocking hot book. What about you? Are you an Agent of Trust? Just like a Real Estate Agent markets real estate, you market Trust in all you do. That is the real estate of the heart.

I like to get that word out there quickly – as I believe that people I do not know, that is on their mind. “Can I trust this guy?” And I usually message something like, “Our company helps build leaders and businesses through concepts and ideas that people can trust and feel good about.”

THAT is using the word Trust- to build trust.

9) “Family”

Some people use “network.” Some use “team.” Some use the word “community.” Some use the word “friends.” I like the word “Family.” It is personal, powerful, and paints a picture of what social media really is building – a family that can help, be there for each other, educate, equip, and empower for greater good.

One thing that I do – and again just an idea, I welcome everyone on Facebook or twitter or YouTube or any other social connection with “Welcome to the family!” This says so much more than “thanks for following me” or “appreciate the connection.” We ARE family – and I hope and pray it stays that way.

10) “Value”

It is ALL about Value. It is all about the VALUE that YOU bring to the table. It is all about the VALUE of your conversations and contributions.

And it is ALL about the VALUE that you help others see within themselves. Edify. Encourage. Empower. And become a “Carrier of Value” to everyone you meet in social media and GIVE some Value to them.

11) “GIVE”

This is the MOST important word. GIVE. Why? In social media, it is not the same ol business methodology. It is Biblical – if you will. “Give first, and what you give you reap.” Giving is the culture of Social Media. Why do you think that people give so much rocking hot info on their blogs?

Giving is a Power. It is something that not only is part of the evolving culture of social media, but also the CATALYST of much of what social media has already become. If you are a marketer, New Marketing can be almost threatening to you as it flies in the face of traditional marketing – or does it?

No – not really. It is simply marketing that puts PEOPLE FIRST – not profits. It puts RELATIONSHIPS FIRST – not results. And it puts GIVING FIRST – not grabbing for their checkbook.

These are the 11 Critical words that I believe should be included in your:

1) Social Media Philosophy

2) Social Media Conversations

3) Social Media Marketing Actions

4) Social Media Core

If you do, your Success should be rapid in social media marketing.

A web page may be created for personal or professional purposes. Technology has made web development a convenient process. In fact the benefits of technology vis-à-vis the web are meant for both developers and users. The increased usage of the web and the growing number of websites are an indication of this. And what sets the web apart from other technologies such as the television and radio is the space it gives to the user. Everyone can have a web site of their own, but not everyone can, for instance, have a show on television.

The mix of personal and professional web spaces is interesting to track. In the initial days of the web, the purpose was purely idea-sharing at an academic level. In about two years, the web was opened up as a public place and you started seeing a mix of personal and professional sites. In the next stage of its growth, the web was filled with everyone’s personal sites. Everyone had a web page up and ready with personal photographs, ‘about me’ etc. And then came the boom of companies on the web, and business on the web grew like never before. The web became an inimitable marketplace for people to buy and sell all kinds of products and services.

In the lifecycle of website creation, the development team evaluates and, if necessary, revises ideas storyboarded by the design team. Web development is a specialized area of work which involves an understanding, even if not knowledge, of all other related processes. It can be said that the development team is directly responsible for the creation of a finished website. Evaluation is not just a technical procedure, and involves some degree of subjectivity also. Developers do not just mechanically use rules to create webpage. Individual web developers would bring their own style to the work, and the final product would be influenced in that way.

Web development is carried out with the use of languages such as HTML, XML, Flash, Perl, CSS etc. Like languages we use in our day to day life, each of these languages used for web development has their own respective logics. A web developer must be well-versed in the use of one or more of these languages. The lay person has a very simplistic understanding of what web development involves. The development stage of a website is in fact a long-drawn process often requiring rework and multiple revisions. Both creation and maintenance of a web space is known as web development.

As mentioned earlier technology is now geared towards making it easier for a common person to develop a web page. There are, now, many tools available to help a person develop a website and make the web development process easier to an extent. The very fact that there are websites taking care of the complete development side of website creation for users, speaks volumes for the complexities involved in web development. A lot of the complexities of web development arise from the fact that a web developer must possess the ability to troubleshoot serious technical problems.

Asynchronous JavaScript And XML (AJAX) is a web development technique used to create interactive web applications. Even though the phenomena itself has been around on the web for about a decade, the term AJAX was recently attributed to this technique which is often misunderstood as being to be a technology. AJAX is very relevant in present day web surfing. There are times when you need your website to seem more responsive. But at the same time to continually process small amounts of data requested by the user you cannot afford for the whole web site to be reloaded. AJAX allows this activity to go on behind the scenes which accentuates the sense of interactivity on the web without affecting the speed of the web site. Filling up forms on websites, and other such activities become particularly easy because of this technique.

The technicalities can be avoided, but any company doing business online must have a good understanding of web development. These companies looking for a resounding web presence must be aware of issues like browser compatibility, accessibility, and web standards. Web standards in particular have been put in place to ensure that websites meet their fundamental purpose if communicating with a user.

In the field of web development ‘web development India’ is the new mantra of success. Global companies are recognizing the path-breaking working being carried out by web developers in India. Companies from across the world are partnering with Indian firms because of the cost-effective, superior quality services on offer. Web development professionals in India with their expertise are attractive key global players towards India. Touted as an industry that will see phenomenal growth in the next couple of years, web development India is surely going to be the way of the future.

Social Media is an umbrella term that encompasses the technologies and the activities that people use to share experiences, ideas and information with each other. The term is still evolving

SM is an umbrella term that encompasses the technologies and the activities that people use to share experiences, ideas and information with each other. The term is still evolving. The term “SOCIAL MEDIA” most often refers to activities that integrate technology, social (or human) interaction, and the construction of words, pictures, videos and audio – better known as “user generated content” [an example of UGC would be videos on YouTube.]

Social media can take many different forms, including Internet forums, weblogs, wikis, podcasts, pictures and video. Technologies include: blogs, picture-sharing, vlogs, wall-postings, email, instant messaging, music-sharing, crowdsourcing (crowd outsourcing), and voice over IP, to name a few.

Examples of social media applications are Google Groups (reference, social networking), Wikipedia (reference), MySpace (social networking), Facebook (social networking), Youmeo (social network aggregation), Last.fm (personal music), YouTube (social networking and video sharing), Second Life (virtual reality), Flickr (photo sharing), Twitter (social networking and microblogging) and other microblogs such as Jaiku and Pownce.

What is Social Media Marketing (SMM)?

SMM is where you use social media networking and user-generated content platforms to promote a product, service or content. SMM typically involves creating and participating in a “conversation” with the target audience, rather than blatantly advertising to them.

SMM can also include creating and promoting viral content that is meant to be shared by users. Many marketers are not comfortable with the lack of control over social media but when approached properly, social networks can be extremely effective channels for building product evangelism, reputation management or corporate branding

Why is it becoming so popular?

I believe it’s simply because it mirrors our true nature. We are gregarious by nature and for once we are able to use technology easily to reach out and connect in new and exciting ways. It’s still all so new too, there are new frontiers popping up regularly and it’s a bit like the early Internet “gold rush” days during the 90′s

Is every Social Media site for every entrepreneur?

They might not think so, but it is. You do it naturally every day, SM online is simply the same thing applied technologically.

How does a business owner determine which site is the best match for them?

Good question. Not all SM Sites are equal. I typically advise people to think “classical marketing” and don’t let the ‘flashing lights’ fool you. Visit the site, pat attention to the conversation. “Lurk” for a while. Ask a question, see what happens. Each environment has its own rules. Blunder in and start shouting and you’ll get flamed. Respect the environments ‘sub culture’ and you’ll do fine. An obvious example of this in action is a site that caters to “gamers” – you instinctively know that if you’re selling insurance you would have a tough time in that environment. Like I said, think like a classical marketer.

Are there some “best practices” steps to starting and maintaining your SMM sites? And how do I make social networking work for me?

Social Media Marketing

Many a company has forgotten the old maxim, “Act in haste, repent at your leisure…” The same warning should be applied to companies rushing to get in on the social media marketing wave.

If you hear things at work like “We should have a blog,” or “Let’s join Facebook,” I suggest [respectfully] that maybe you are about to make a whopper of a mistake.

Here’s why…

Backwards is bad

You are starting your social media strategy design backwards – and this will lead to trouble.

In any other business endeavor we start by figuring out what we want to accomplish. Social media technologies are not magical. They’re just tools too. It’s time to stop doing social media marketing because it’s trendy and instead do it because it works!

4 Things to Remember

The web is about people. You need to know your audience. Understand their capabilities, their hangouts online, their language and behaviors. If you’re targeting business travelers then consider rating and review sites for example. Just don’t guess…

Figure out what will be different when you are done. This is the “why” behind your plans. Do you want to create a close knit community or a product testing ground. Understand the motive’s behind your actions.

What outcomes and objectives are you seeking to achieve. Consider the end result and how you will measure it. A fuzzy or fluffy end result is almost as bad as not specifying one at all. How will you measure success?

What technology to choose. Only answer this question when you’ve completed the others because then you’ll know with clarity and confidence.

In conclusion, if you recognize classic business planning and management principles amongst these notes you’d be correct. The game may have changed, but the rules are still the same. Plan first, then act with confidence.

How long is this new type of marketing going to take to master?

The actual skills are quite simple – you likely already have them mastered. What you need to learn is the PROCESS. That takes a little time, but frankly not that much.

What if I don’t know many people to invite to my network?

No problem. Answer this question “If you are the ANSWER, what was the QUESTION?” Armed with that answer you can locate groups of people who would need what you offer. You can then invite them to participate and you can SHARE your knowledge and expertise to PROVE you are the answer to their problem. Use your favourite search engine to locate these people – simply type in the QUESTION or problem. Remember, if people knew the answer they wouldn’t be looking

How can I get business through SMM?

It’s a funny thing when I’m asked this. We do it daily, so I marvel at the fact people think it’s different online. Sure there’s a layer of technology in the mix, but it’s still about people getting to know people. Remember the old maxim, people buy from people they like and trust.

SMM simply enables (or should I say empowers) you to do this more effectively.

Why Most Brands Fail on Social Networks

A new report from JupiterResearch sheds light on what many online marketers suspected for quite some time. Most brands are failing to make impact on social networks…

Naughton’s Law states: “We invariably over-estimate the short-term implications of new communications technologies, and we grievously underestimate their long term impacts.” Every brand should be online in the best way, know its consumers, and maximize the benefit of its online offering to those consumers.

Here are some startling facts from the report:

Startling Facts:

The average branded social networking page has only 6,494 friends.

Many advertisers are still building branded social networking pages that broadcast content rather than inviting users to interact.

“Most advertisers simply don’t know how to market properly within social networks.” – JupiterResearch

New Research Suggests:

You should promote your SM pages with paid adverts rather than relying on viral marketing to get the message out. Building viral buzz is harder than you think.

You need to engage users on the page. Even simple forms of engagement, such as contests, on average doubled the number of friends acquired by each branded page.

You must also appeal to social networkers’ love of multimedia to get noticed. Social Networkers are twice as likely to visit a branded page focused on media content than a branded page focused on products.

How does the non-writer do this type of marketing?

It really shouldn’t pose a problem. The ‘Net is vast and there’s room for each of us to be AUTHENTIC. Even behind the shield of a computer many of us seem able to sense a scoundrel or someone “putting on airs”.

If you can email you can do SM. If you can talk you can SM. If you have a pulse… you get the idea.

Do the Social Media Marketing sites have fees to pay?

Typically NO. I advise you to initially avoid any sites that ask for payment until you know precisely what you are paying for. There are some good fee based sites out there, but the good ones also offer a free version too – start there if you wish. Let the results determine the level of investment you are prepared to make.

Are there some sites that you would recommend for business people?

LinkedIn.com
eCademy.com
SelfGrowth.com
Ning.com – ‘create your own’ Social Media website.

Will I have to spend hours a day keeping in touch with all of the people who write to me?

You will need to invest time and energy in your online marketing. Whether it’s YOU that does this or one of your staff is entirely up to you. But you cannot expect a “set and forget” solution to something that is inherently human.

How can I protect myself from “weirdoes?”

Be careful. Don’t give away sensitive or private information online. You will always be exposed to some degree to odd people. I get some very odd emails and propositions, however you need to remember this is business, and although you are using “personal skills” to network online, never forget that.

How can I come across as a professional on these sites, and is it possible to do “real” business this way?

Yes. Publish a professional PROFILE. Show you are a professional and act accordingly and you will be perceived as such. Include family photos of you dressed as a clown at your kids birthday party at your own peril. Remember, online your “goofs” are eternal and will haunt you forever. Online reputation is area you need to tread carefully within. It’s a bit off topic, but that’s why I tell teenagers that they should be very careful about the pictures and posts they put on these social websites. Because in a few years the recruiters will be Googling them and this will be part of their “resume” and frankly it can be a career killer before it even starts.

Why do some people seem to get good results and others just get discouraged?

As with all things in life some people quit too early. Social Media Marketing and Social Networking takes time. It’s like any relationship you develop with another human, rushing to the finish just gets you slapped… Metaphorically and literally too!

Also, success online isn’t about one big thing, it’s about a cluster of little things done consistently with focus and commitment. The strongest trees take the longest to grow. Online things happen a lot faster, but still there is a time commitment, think 6 to 12 months and you’ll be thinking along the right lines.

Is there a “fast start” strategy once I sign up for a Social media marketing site?

There is. Create a professional profile. Publish some content establishing you as an expert in your field. The ‘readers’ will approve and so will the search engines. Explore the active or “hot zones” within the SM site, pay attention to the type of communication and then dive in. Give first. Build kudos and credit before you try asking for anything.

To keep up, use technology to “feed” your SM presence from your other sites like your blog or website. I use technology to syndicate and publish my content to all my SM sites with the push of one button. It makes connecting and staying up to date a breeze.

Remember to invite your friends to join you. Add a promotional button on your “other” sites – for instance if you decide to join Twitter, you can put a “Follow Me” link on your website. Connect, Communicate and Commit. Now ‘rinse and repeat.’

Extra Topics…

The 16 Rules of Social Media Optimization

Social Media Optimization (SMO) is a set of methods for generating publicity through social media, online communities and community websites. Methods of SMO include adding RSS feeds, adding a Digg or Share This button, blogging and incorporating third party community functionalities like Flickr photo slides and galleries or YouTube videos. Social media optimization is a form of search engine marketing (SEO.)

Social media optimization is in many ways connected as a technique to viral marketing where word of mouth is created not through friends or family but through the use of networking in social bookmarking, video and photo sharing websites. In a similar way the engagement with blogs achieves the same by sharing content through the use of RSS in the blogsphere and special blog search engines such as Technorati.

Rohit Bhargava was credited with inventing the term SMO. His original five rules for conducting Social Media Optimization have grown to 16 (as of today.) For reference, here is an aggregated list so far:

Increase your linkability

Make tagging and bookmarking easy

Reward inbound links

Help your content travel

Encourage the mashup

Be a User Resource, even if it doesn’t help you

Reward helpful and valuable users

Participate

Know how to target your audience

Create content

Be real

Don’t forget your roots, be humble

Don’t be afraid to try new things, stay fresh

Develop a SMO strategy

Choose your SMO tactics wisely

Make SMO part of your process and best practices

Much of what is listed here is common sense, some say it just Web2.0 marketing. Whatever you may think it’s definitely good advice no matter what. I’m just pleased we are taking the subject seriously now and promoting strategic content creation as an important aspect in the mix.

15 Social Media Facts That You Should Know

Marketing and SEO are different, yet very, very similar. SEO are considered as the main factors in enhancing the traffic of one’s website. The concepts of good SEO are hardly a secret. The people who least understands issues with URL structure and SEO are the very people who create them: web developers, programmers, and software developers.

Many long-time SEO’s are now looking at the big picture and working with usability analysts. Some SEO are scam artists. I find it interesting that so many newcomers are given the wrong impression that there is one almighty answer to doing well in search engines. SEO are specialized techniques used to optimize your web site, to be Search engine friendly and increase your chances of placing well in searches. But SEO can also be the most profitable methods of driving leads because any leads you receive from SEO are free leads.

There are a large number of companies that adopt a fast and unethical approach to SEO known as Black Hat SEO. They employ unethical techniques that are against search engine policies. The best results from SEO are rarely achieved overnight. Black hat SEO are the techniques used to fool the search engines in order to bring in more traffic to websites. Website owners who unknowingly utilize black hat techniques of SEO are more vulnerable to changes in search engine algorithms and faced being banned.

Most hardcover books on the subject of SEO are best viewed as a vehicle to help the beginner understand the process of search engine optimization. This is because the principles behind SEO are not easy. They are very informative and most webmasters are involved in SEO and using it. White hat and black hat SEO are two opposing views of how to do search engine optimization. In a nutshell, SEO are methods that aim to improve the position or rank of a website in the listings produced by search engines. The benefits of SEO are almost unlimited.

Watch out for SEO Tools and software that is outdated and totally useless. Always research before you buy any SEO software because the search engine Algorithms are constantly changing thereby improving their search technologies to provide the most relevant results for their users. SEO tools for Google, Bing and Yahoo are numerous. SEO tools for press release optimization were also launched by PRWeb at the end of June called SEO Wizard. Search engine optimization is not easy, but with the right SEO tools, your website promotion task just got a lot easier. Blogs are one of the best SEO tools around and some like WordPress are free. Google Sitemaps’ are a powerful SEO tools which you can get free by visiting my website.

Bing has launched a suite of SEO tools to go with their Pay Per Click product Adcenter. There are many SEO tools available on the internet, some are better then others, and some are not. Header tags, proper Keyword density, proper text formatting fonts, start text key-phrase as whole phrases, alt image tag text, links pointing to your site and each page and your domain name itself are some things to pay attention too. Many specialized SEO tools can help you determine the popularity and the competitiveness of your possible keywords and can help improve your search engine ranking particularly in Google.

Writing fresh content for SEO plays a large role in keeping visitors on a web site. Let’s talk unique web page content and SEO content strategy. Finding a good SEO content writer is easier than you think. Just run a Google search or checkout elance.com. What is good SEO Content? It is unique, quality information that your visitors can use and is helpful to them. RSS feeds are an invaluable tool in the SEO content toolbox. If you scrape SEO content and end up scraping a couple spam pages, you may get noticed even more because someone is investigating the other spam pages.

The primary factor that will determine whether your SEO content is “good enough” is the content provided by competing websites. You need unique content that nobody has in order for it to pass duplicate content filters. That’s why it is important to get your content articles indexed before you submit them to the search engines. I think nowadays though search engine algorithms can trace back the content and see who published it first, so at least make sure you publish it to your website or blog before submitting it to article directories.

To strengthen the theme of your web site, you need keyword rich SEO content. SEO content writing tips content writer’s main aim is to create a new written piece which is original, simple, informative and also to the point. Write specific targeted SEO content for the independent pages. Unique SEO content remains king. Showing your visitors you can really write unique, compelling content, your traffic will grow very fast. Earlier it was just content writing but now it is widely known as SEO content writing. However there are some strict rules enforced on SEO content. Once you have visitors, your SEO content should be converting them into customers. With effective SEO content on your website, half of your search engine rank optimization work is done.

Ethical search engine optimization is a must or you will get banned. It’s not if, it’s when. Search engine optimization was and still is fascinating to me. Search Engine Optimization is a crucial part in a websites success. The objective of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is to achieve high natural search engine placement for relevant keywords or keyword phrases. Hiring an ethical search engine optimization company to rank well in the natural results is essential to long term success.

Your white hat Search engine optimization (SEO) campaign will provide you with a long term increase in targeted traffic and qualified visitors to your Web Site. Visit my site often and add it to your favorites as I update you with the latest news and rumors in the search engine optimization industry everyday. The effects of bad search engine optimization are devastating and very depressing. Each website is unique in its own way and hence your (SEO) plans differ from website to website.

My site has some tips on how to perform search engine optimization (also know as SEO) on your website. I have a free, comprehensive guide to the practice of search engine optimization for those unfamiliar with the subject if you send me an email. There’s a lot of hype out there about search engine optimization (SEO) services. Some are good and some are bad. Read through Google’s terms of service as they have some information on their site about it.

Too often, visual design and SEO are perceived as a mutual sacrifice. Pay-per-click and SEO are targeted to get your website placed as close to the top of search engine results as possible. Pay-per-click cost money, but the clicks from SEO cost you nothing. SEO are considered as the main factors in enhancing the traffic of one’s website. Both, PPC and SEO are important. The truth is, the most rewarding part of SEO are often the slowest to reward. PR and SEO are based mostly on editorial credibility and relevance, not a direct payment for exposure.

SEO are specialized techniques used to optimize your web site, to be Search engine friendly and increase your chances of placing well in searches. There are a large number of companies that adopt a fast and unethical approach to SEO known as Black Hat SEO. The main components of on-page SEO are optimization of the title tag, the headline tag, the body text and the Meta tags. Companies interested in SEO are occasionally not very happy with how their website looks. Programmers with an understanding of SEO are in high demand. As a matter of fact, sites with excellent Search Engine Optimization are making giant leaps in rankings and getting a major boost in free traffic with Google’s new update.

Great web usability and SEO are wasted if folks who visit your web can’t tell that you are worthy of their trust. Those who specialize in SEO are in the unique position of understanding the web in a way that no traditional marketing agency can hope to. White hat and black hat SEO are two opposing views of how to do search engine optimization so if you use one, choose with great care. The second most important aspect for high SEO is the headers. Use H1, H2, H3, H4 headers.

Many of the techniques that can be used for SEO are banned by the various search engines. The benefits of SEO are almost unlimited. Bad techniques of SEO are a strict ‘NO’ – Like same color text as the background and Doorway pages can get your website banned. The five forces of SEO are relevant Keywords, unique Content, clean Code, relevant Links and proper use of Technology. Designing for users and designing for SEO are not mutually exclusive goals. There will be compromise. White hat SEO are techniques that follow precisely the rules and guidelines provided by search engines stand a better chance of receiving traffic and higher rankings than black hat techniques.

For this reason it is important to try to stay updated as far as new SEO are concerned. The off-page elements of website promotion and SEO are just as important. The majority of issues with SEO is very basic and just takes time to be picked up on search engines. Web design and SEO are two very different disciplines, but a certain degree of collaboration is required. It’s easy to see why effective SEO are now very much in demand. Black hat SEO is techniques used to trick or manipulate search engines for higher rankings.

If done properly, the results of your SEO efforts are very impressive. Those who practice what some refer to as “ethical” and “correct” SEO are called White Hat SEO’s. The most important for SEO is to follow the rules and you won’t have anything to worry about.

Some simple rules that could save you a lot of cash in internet marketing. If you are marketing anything on the internet - you should read this

1) Know Your Budget

The first thing that every internet marketer should do is be conscious of what their budget allows and doesn’t allow. With all of us feeling the crunch money wise none of us wants to lose any more on marketing than we have to. If you are starting a new campaign(s) make sure you set the limit to something you feel comfortable with that won’t break your personal bank

2) Make your PPC Ads Specific

Getting traffic to a site is as easy as buying AdWords. The problem is that if the leads aren’t really qualified – they are virtually useless and can be quite expensive. When you are creating your ad – try to be as descriptive as you can as far as what the user can expect when they follow the link. If the ad is very general and its not easy to figure out exactly what you will get by clicking on it – some people will click out of curiosity. This costs money = bad. What you want is to have people attracted to your ad and the leads or clicks to be good leads of people you know who have some real interest in the product or service you are offering

3) Use Free Ways to Promote

Article submission is free. Offering advice in forums is free(keep a sig file with your link in it) Google groups is another way to promote. Chat rooms can help prequalify people based on the chatroom name or topic. Digg articles – write your own about your product or service. YouTube videos – easy to make – easy to submit.

4) Do The Math

We’re not all number crunchers but all of us can do the math of deciding when it may or may not be equitable to market on certain keywords. If you have a product that will return $20 in revenue to you if someone buys it, then take that 20 dollars and divide it by 100 giving you 20 cents. This is the number you need to stay under or at while you are testing out a new market. If you are paying 30 cents and have 100 clicks this will cost you $30 dollars. If you are paying $30 to make $20 … well you will have problems Lots of people will tout their product as having extremely great conversion rates – to date I have found none that share the same conversions that are advertised.

First of all let me start by saying that this is only my plan, you can make your own. What I meant was without any plan you’re doomed to fail, but the true path to internet marketing success is finding your own plan that works.

I am going to give you my plan and I hope it will help you out, I know I used a paid for plan when I first started internet marketing because I was so lost.

It wasn’t just that I was lost though, I was overwhelmed by the whole thing. There is too much information to learn and I didn’t know where to start or how to take action. I bought One Week Marketing from PotPieGirl and followed that to the letter for my first month internet marketing. Then I branched off in my own direction as I’m sure you will.

I thought it would be nice to put a free plan of action out there, so here goes:

Get signed up to ClickBank then pick five products to promote. You won’t be promoting all five but do pick five. Make sure they are in different categories, I’d suggest big differences like tennis verses Athlete’s Foot.

Go online and find forums for each of these topics, if you can’t find one scratch it for now. Go into each forum and right down the five topics that have the most attention, go through them and take some notes as to the tone people are talking about something.

Get the general feel for each crowd and write it down, then pick the one you feel you can relate to the most (or just randomly). Go to either Google’s keyword tool or SEO-Books keyword tool, and type in your subject. Find keywords that have at least 50 local searches a day, a little math should figure this out for you.

Write down at least 10 keywords, don’t spend all day doing this. Yet every time you pick a keyword go into Google and type in that keyword with quotes. Travis recommends less than 5,000 results returned or you dump the keyword, and I think this is a good rule of thumb for beginners.

Once you have 5 keywords that fit the criteria, I want you to go to Squidoo.com and make 5 lenses, one on each keyword. Write some quality content, take your time. A little research here goes a long way, this is the providing value stage.

Then add links from Squidoo to your sales page (affiliate link) and ask people to give the product a shot. A review of what you think of the product (if you’ve tried it) also works wonders. Once you have these five Squidoo lenses I suggest writing some articles on each keyword as well and submitting them to an article directory for more power to your lenses.

From here on out it is up to you to decide what to do, you could simply start over after this and you’ll still be successful if you keep working at it.

One thing that all successful internet marketers know is how to identify each keyword most relevant to driving targeted traffic to their blog or website. Keyword research is critical to determining which niches are profitable and which words are most important for search engine optimization and marketing purposes.

Learning to identify a profitable niche requires gathering information about the targeted traffic in comparison to the strength of the competition surrounding that niche. There are several free and paid tools available online to help your research. One of the most popular among online marketing gurus is the Google AdWords External Keyword tool. Just type in a word or phrase and it will provide a list of related words and phrases along with the number of monthly searches for each.

By typing the same keyword or phrase into the standard Google Search bar you will get the number of competing pages and the profitability of the niche. The ads going down the right side of the screen are referred to as paid ads or pay per Click Ads. Each time someone clicks on one of the ads the publisher is charged a fee whether or not a sale is made. Online marketers are willing to pay anywhere from 5 cents and up per click. The ads are specific to keywords or phrases and can costs 5, 10, or even 20 dollars per click if the niche is profitable enough.

If there are no pay per Click ads on the screen you need to find better keywords or another niche. No paid ads means the niche is likely not very profitable and should be avoided if you want to make money online.

Finding several keywords relative to your desired niche and placing them in the right places on your blog or site helps the search engine spiders find you and helps drive highly targeted traffic to your site which is more likely to convert to sales of your product.

Picking the right keywords for your internet marketing niche is one of the most essential aspects of online marketing. This is because keywords, literally, drives the internet and as such your inability to find relevant keywords for your website can result in a hole within your marketing strategy

Picking the right keywords for your internet marketing niche is one of the most essential aspects of online marketing. This is because keywords, literally, drives the internet and as such your inability to find relevant keywords for your website can result in a hole within your marketing strategy.

Now, this hole can become the reason why you fail thus it is important to prevent it from happening. When picking keywords, you have to first look into your chosen niche. It is important that you choose an internet marketing niche that is not saturated.

This is because no matter how relevant or carefully chosen your keywords are, within a saturated niche, you’re still likely to fail. Once you have chosen an ideal niche, you should select keywords that are relevant to your website. Choose them carefully because they would be used on all your content, your tags and so on. Basically, the success of your website’s SEO or search engine optimization largely depends upon your chosen keywords.

What makes a good keyword? Well, for one, it should be different from the rest. It is inevitable that you would encounter a website that sells products that are similar to yours. To get ahead of them, you need to be creative when it comes to choosing your keywords. If you use the exact same keywords as they do then you won’t stand out from the rest. So always think outside the box and look beyond the obvious. Take the time to research your internet marketing niche as you go about choosing your keywords.

Don’t rush things because this might result in faulty or poorly chosen keywords. Let the creativity flow and pretty soon, you’ll have a good list in your hands which you can then pick apart to make sure that you get the best of the lot.

Confused about effective Niche Selection? Well, don’t be. I can help you with that. I have helped hundreds of people to become effective at niche selection. There is so much money to be made if people just spent a little bit of time and effort on this one aspect of internet marketing. Find a solid niche market and succeed at internet marketing, it’s as simple as that.

Have you wondered how other people select keywords to target for their Internet marketing site? If you selected your keywords because you liked the topic without doing the necessary research, you may never achieve your financial goals. This article discusses how to research keywords before you start your marketing campaign

Keywords are the common thread in Internet Advertising/Marketing. The person sitting in front of a computer thinks about keywords that they will use to search for information or products. At the opposite end of the spectrum, the supplier describes the information or product in terms of Ad words, another form of keywords. So the Internet marketeer must also think in terms of keywords, if they hope to participate in the transaction. To often we Internet Marketeers think only of the product and what we might earn from promoting such a product, without regard to the source of the transaction. I’m always surprised when doing keyword research, at the volume and the amount paid to advertise a given keyword. Keywords that I would have guessed were searched for a million times a month turn out to be searched for very little. Also, I find what I consider high demand keywords that indeed have high volume, but the amount paid per click for this traffic is small.

When I do keyword research, I often start it because I saw a sign board or a TV advertisement that had a catchy keyword or keyword phrase that I liked. If I’m just looking for new ideas, I will go to Amazon or E-Bay and just look at the items for sale. A keyword can be anything you can imagine. Then with a few single word keywords in mind, I use the free Google AdWords Keyword Tool to check volumes and what advertisers are paying for the keyword and related keyword phrases. I start by entering the first keyword and then I configure the tool for my research. The changes I make to the configuration are as Follows: I change the Match Type drop-down to Exact; Under Show/Hide Columns, I click hide advertiser competition and hide local search volume. Under Show/Hide Columns, I click show average CPC. The CPC is the amount the advertiser pays Google per click for this keyword.

So now I enter single keywords that I found in the step where I was looking for ideas. I enter single keywords because the keyword tool will give you all kinds of related phrases that you might not have thought about. If you enter a 2 – 3 word phrase you could miss out on a really good phrase. So the tool gives me a list of keywords and related phrases, about 150 of them, and the cost per click of each. If I like the volumes and click value I can save them in a spreadsheet by simply scrolling down to the end of the column and clicking the csv for excel link. I generally repeat this process until I have at least one thousand keywords and phrases in my spreadsheet.

The last step in keyword gathering is to calculate the potential monthly income from each keyword. I add a column to the spreadsheet called Monthly Potential. I know that I can expect to get about 25% of the amount that the advertiser pays Google per click. Sometimes it’s a bit more or less, but that’s a pretty good number. My objective is to find a keyword or phrase with which I can achieve number one ranking on Googles search result page. For the rest of my calculation I assume I can rank number one for each keyword. If I rank number one, I can expect to get about 40% of the monthly click volume. I also can expect to convert about 5% of that traffic into a click from my site. So I create an Excel formula that looks like this =((B2*0.25)*(C2*0.4*0.05)). I copy this formula into all the cells in the monthly potential column in the spreadsheet. This tells me what the monthly income potential is for each keyword. Now you have an economic basis for keyword selection. I hope this will help you with your selection of proper keywords.
