Leanback And Watch Youtube

google-leanback imageEarlier today YouTube announced the beta launch of a TV-like viewing experience named LeanBack. This goes to show that YouTube is not only expanding its reach on mobile devices, but it has its eye on dominating the TV screen and the living room as well.

When you visit the LeanBack site, a full-screen feed, personalized for each viewer begins playing. Using your keyboard’s enter and direction keys you can navigate the feed. No need for the mouse or for entering URLs.

According to YouTube’s Senior Product Manager, Kuan Yong, “This feed is based on your YouTube settings and preferences, including content from your subscriptions and videos your friends are sharing on Facebook (assuming you’ve connected your YouTube account to your Facebook account).”

Leanback’s UI design is very simple and it’s intended to allow users to literally “lean back” and watch YouTube videos one after the other.

Maybe we will all still be “leaning back” and couch-viewing YouTube a year from now or not, only time will tell.
